Reading at Home

Reading is an important life skill and practising reading regularly at home can really help young children become confident and fluent readers. Just like learning to ride a bike, practise makes perfect!

Here are a couple of short tutorial videos developed by RWI to support parents in helping their child read at home, these cover many aspects including how to say the sounds and use the blending books. Take a look…

There is also a video that we have made that shows how our school reading system works and how to read the book bag books at home with your child. This includes using the red word bookmark, the reading routine, introducing words and vocabulary included in the book cover and recording reading in the reading record. This is the same process for all the book colours from red to grey.

Remember if your child reads 3 times a week at home, they are entered into our reading champion prize draw to win a brand-new book!
