Mental Health and Wellbeing

At Common Road Infant and Nursery School, we are committed to supporting the mental health and wellbeing of all our pupils and staff. We pursue this aim using whole school approaches such as Jigsaw PSHE/Health and Wellbeing alongside targeted interventions for pupils who need more individual support.

We know that everyone experiences life challenges that can make us vulnerable and at times, anyone may need additional emotional support. We take the view that positive mental health is everybody’s business and that we all have a role to play.  We recognise as a school that by developing and implementing practical, relevant and effective mental health procedures we can promote a safe and stable environment for pupils affected both directly, and indirectly by mental ill-health.

To promote first aid for mental health and wellbeing we aim to:

  • Develop a whole school approach for both pupils and staff.
  • Create an approach on the principles taken from the 8 key principles identified in ‘Promoting Children and Young people Emotional Health and Wellbeing’ (2015).
  • To work together with families.
  • To provide a holistic and multi-agency approach.

We are committed to being a health-promoting environment that works with our local community to achieve the best health outcomes for pupils, parents, staff and the wider population as a whole and as such we have received the Healthy Wakefield Charter Mark.
