Newsletter 13th January 2026

Dear parents and carers,

Firstly, I would like to wish you all a warm welcome back following the Christmas break. Thank you to everyone who joined us for our nativity performances and other festive events. It was lovely to see you all. I hope you and your families enjoyed some quality time over the Christmas holidays. The monies we collected at the nativities were donated to Soup4Em. Thank you for supporting their continued hard work in our community.

I would also like to thank the Common Road Champion ladies for their continued hard work and dedication. Their donations paid for the whole school pantomime which the children enjoyed watching during the last week of term. Thank you CRC!

We have had a busy few weeks in the Edwards household with Christmas and then Posey’s 10th birthday! I cannot believe she is 10… here we are celebrating at her horse themed birthday party!

Diary dates
Attached to this newsletter are the diary dates for the Spring term. This tells you all you need to know about events in school up to Easter. Please stick these on the fridge or keep them safe! They will also be available on the school website (view/download here) and further information will be provided on class dojo. Please keep an eye on the school Facebook and X pages for further information and to keep up to date with what we have been busy doing!

OFSTED
Before the Christmas break school was inspected by OFSTED under the new framework. The judgments of outstanding, good etc have now been removed and replaced with strong, secure and other statements. We are currently waiting for OFSTED report to be sent. Once I have received this, I will send this home for you to read and publish this to the school website and school social media pages. Thank you to everyone who fed into our parent and pupil view and who spoke to inspectors whilst on site. We were, as always, extremely proud of our school and our community.

The baby BOOM…
Well, the stork seems to have taken up residency at Common Road School as we have a number of staff expecting babies this year. We are delighted for them all and look forward to welcoming some new additions to our team. Miss Kolka gave birth before Christmas to her little boy Bartley-Blue. Congratulations to Miss Kolka and her family on their new bundle of joy! Miss Adams and Miss Mitchell will both be leaving to put their feet up and get some rest this term before their babies arrive. Miss Adam’s class will be taught by Miss Atkinson and Mrs Staves will step in to teach Tiger’s class on a full-time basis. Miss Adams and Miss Mitchells maternity leaves will be followed by Mrs Blakeborough, Miss Shaw and Mrs Khalil.

As much as we will miss all our teachers and teaching assistants this will be the start of an exciting new chapter for us all. Please be assured that our classes will be taught this year by teachers familiar to the children and we will hopefully look forward to welcoming some new teaching staff in September.

Vacancy
We are currently looking for a temporary teaching assistant to join our Dream Team. The advert is published on the Vacancies page as well as the school Facebook and X pages. If you would like to find out more and would like an application pack please email the school office who can provide one to you office@commonroad.wakefield.sch.uk

Thank you all as always for your continued support and I look forward to working with you all this term to ensure your child flourishes.

Yours sincerely,
Mrs Edwards – Headteacher
